The Flaming Lips record song with Mercury Rev
28 June 2000

Oklahoma city psychedelic soldiers The Flaming Lips have recorded a new version of their anthemic Race For The Prize. They layed down the track (off their oh so fine The Soft Bulletin) along with members of Mercury Rev, the band formed by Jonathan Donahue after he quit the Lips in 1991. According to a spokesperson, the two bands teamed up at producer Dave Fridmann’s upstate New York studio this month “...really just to see what it turned out like.” There are no official plans for release, although NME reports a rumor that the track will be broadcast on UK radio.
The Flaming Lips headlined the Glastonbury New Bands stage (their choice—they formed in 1983) last weekend, and start a European/Japanese festival tour on Friday at Belgium’s Werchter festival. | NME story | | The Flaming Lips | | Mercury Rev | | Flamng Lips tour dates | | discography | | sample | | top of page |
