Dreamworks launches demo submission Web site
27 June 2000

American label Dreamworks Records (owned by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen) has launched Dreamworks Digital A&R, a Web site designed to accept unsigned artist demo submissions in MP3 (MPEG I, layer 3) format over the Internet. The site joins Jerry Harrison’s garageband.com site and Universal Music Group’s rip-off thereof, farmclub.com, in providing musicians access to label resources via the Web.
Dreamworks Digital A&R executive Luke Wood said “This is an additional way to help us find great talent. We will always rely on the help of managers, attorneys and publishers and encourage artists to seek professional representation, but we have to be where musicians are, which is increasingly on the Net.”
For an insider’s perspective on the signing process, check out Courtney Love’s recent speech to the Digital Hollywood conference in New York. | Dreamworks Digital A&R | | garageband.com | | Love's Digital Hollywood speech | | top of page |
