Hungry Ghosts release debut US album

Australian soundscape/punk instrumentalist trio Hungry Ghosts released this week in the US the 15 track album Alone Alone. They recorded it last June for Hoboken, New Jersey based Smells Like Records with SLR chief/Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley producing.
Shelley first heard them during a Sonic Youth tour in 1998 that passed through Melbourne. He invited them on the spot to travel north to his studio to make a record, and Alone Alone is the remarkable result.
The new set follows closely behind Hungry Ghosts’ self titled debut released this past October only in Australia, which UK music mag NME reviewed favorably. According to the label, the new album includes 15 tracks “of sweet outback soul, dusty red ballads that drip, curl, and spark... a unique brand of combustive folk music, where primitive punk roots patrol a more mature Morricone/Badalamenti beat.”
The tracks on Alone Alone are Back For More I Go, Trying To Lift A Rock With A Bottle On Your Head, Interlude, Reading Your Mail, No Prior Convictions, (untitled), Alone Alone, I Don’t Think About You Anymore But I Don’t Think About You Any Less, Interlude, Float, Coma, Remember What It Was Like To Float?, Nothing Has To Happen, Interlude, (untitled). | Smells Like Records | | NME review of HG debut, Dec 1999 | | discography | | CD | | top of page |
