Coldplay are top candidate for Mercury Prize
25 July 2000
image
Coldplay’s debut album Parachutes is the favorite among British odds makers William Hill to win the 2000 Mercury Prize, the UK’s most prestigious new music award. Other contenders include (in descending order of prize liklihood) Richard Ashcroft, Leftfield, MJ Cole, Death In Vegas, Doves, Badly Drawn Boy, Nitin Sawhney, The Delgados, Helicopter Girl, Kathryn Williams, and classical composer Nicholas Maw.
Coldplay are a London quartet that are variously compared to Travis, Radiohead, The Verve, and Tim and Jeff Buckley. They’ve managed to score a number one album as well as an extremely rare 9 out of 10 review from UK music mag New Musical Express.
Impress your friends by owning some of the coolest new music before they do—here are links to buy each of the Mercury Prize nominated albums.
