Aphex Twin on Chris Cunningham soundtrack
19 July 2000
UK techno pioneer Aphex Twin (Richard James) and director Chris Cunningham have announced that they collaborated on a 17 minute film for the London Royal Academy’s upcoming Apocalyse exhibition, to run 23 September through 15 December. Rumors have been flying for months regarding what the pair might be working on, none of which have necessarily been refuted by the announcement. These include the possibility that Cunningham is working on an adult film, and that he’s directing a screen adaptation of William Gibson’s seminal cyberpunk novel Neuromancer.
The new film is Cunningham’s first work since retiring from the music video business—he was best known for work with Aphex Twin and Björk. James heads Rephlex Records, which has taken the side opposing unrestricted Internet music file distribution via services such as Napster. | NME story | | Rephlex Records | | discography | | sample from Windowlicker | | top of page |
