Napster CEO, Metallica drummer testify before US senate
12 July 2000
Yesterday Hank Barry, CEO for San Mateo, California software maker Napster, Inc., testified before the US Senate Judiciary Committee in defense of Internet based music file sharing and the technology his company provides to facilitate it. You can read his full testimony here.
At the same session, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich testified in defense of artists’ rights, essentially providing a reality check against Napster’s vision of a glorious and free Internet based on altruism and sharing—pointing out that Napster rakes in enormous profits entirely at artists’ expense. | Hank Barry testimony | | Lars Ulrich testimony | | top of page |
