Tortoise help bid adieu to Chicago’s Lounge Ax
7 January 2000
Chicago post rock quintet Tortoise played for the last time at their hometown’s Lounge Ax on Thursday, as part of a goodbye series that ends on 15 January—a new landlord is kicking out the legendary club to turn it into a sports bar and duplex apartment.
Tortoise start work on their next LP later this month. The club may reopen if owners Sue Miller (wife of Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy) and Julia Adams can find an appropriate location. | Billboard story | | Lounge Ax site | | discography | | sample from In The Fishtank (EP) | | top of page |
