Goodbye Sony: Alan McGee founds new indie label
4 January 2000
Alan McGee, co-founder of England’s highly influential Creation Records, turned the reigns over to Sony Corporation in November. He has now announced that his new indie label will be called Poptones (after the 1979 Public Image Limited song).
Speaking to Uncut magazine, McGee said “We’re creating a new undergound. I won’t be playing the game... Poptones is anti-marketing... But the idea’s so strong I can’t fail... There’s some fucking great ideas: downloads, Webcasts, and a load of things that haven’t been done before. I’ve got a lot of tricks up my sleeve.” | NME story | | top of page |
