NetAid to distribute US$1.7 million in Africa, Kosovo 31 January 2000 Octobers NetAid concert featured stages in three countries, top tier artists such as David Bowie and Wyclef Jean, and the worlds most watched Webcast. But it raised a disappointing US$1 million (£624,000) for charities. The Netaid.org foundations coffers, however, hold much more. Internet company Cisco Systems, a backer for the project, contributed $10 million, and individual philanthropists another $1 million. The initial disbursement of $1.7 million will be made shortly. David Morrison, president of the Netaid.org foundation, announced We chose Africa and Kosovo for these initial grants because of their desperate needs. In Africa, 220 million people live in extreme poverty, and those living in war-torn Kosovo are facing a battle every day to rebuild and survive. NetAid, originally conceived as a long term project, accepts donations any time on their secure Web site. | Live Daily story | | NetAid donation page | | top of page | |
