Concert e-tickets on the way
3 January 2000
North American ticketing company Admission Network has successfully tested an electronic ticketing system in which concertgoers receive their tickets as PDF (portable document format) attachments via email and then render them at home using a standard computer printer. The printouts, which can be photocopied, contain unique bar codes that include personal identifying information. To gain admission to an event, concertgoers get their plain-paper tickets scanned. At its option, a venue could require photo ID, as airlines now do.
Downsides to the system include the loss of any memorabilia value for the tickets and the possibility of theft.
