Johnny Marr and The Healers to debut this year 26 January 2000 Johnny Marr, former guitarist with The Smiths and current member of Electronic, plans to release an album this year under the banner Johnny Marr and the Healers. Marr wrote all the songs and is the band’s vocalist as well. He hopes to find a label for a summer 2000 release. Marr spoke with Kevin Raub of allstar News. “It’s a bit strange when a guitar player starts to sing because of the nature of guitar heroism. It’s almost like in a ’50s movie when some kid is mute and then in the last scene he goes, 'Mama!' It’s like, 'Oh my God! He can speak!'” Band members include drummer Zak Starkey (Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr’s son), percussionist Liz Bonney and keyboard player Lee Spencer (both of whom Marr first crossed paths with while vacationing in Australia), and rhythm guitarist Chink. | CDnow allstar story | | top of page | |
