Government kills Liverpool’s plan to advertise Beatles
19 January 2000
The British Department of the Environment, Transport And The Regions has denied the city of Liverpool’s request to post signs along the M6 reading “Liverpool—Birthplace of the Beatles.” A government spokesman said “Drivers have just four seconds to assimilate information. There is a limit on the number of words allowed. It comes down to safety grounds—it was too distracting.”
Leader of the Liverpool City Council Mike Storey responded “...to not allow the signs is bureaucracy gone mad.” | BBC story | | discography | | sample | | top of page |
