Resistance Records markets racism over the Web
18 January 2000
Resistance Records, based in rural West Virginia a short day’s drive from Washington, DC, is the world’s largest neo Nazi/white supremacist/hate music label. A project of the US Nazi organization National Alliance, Resistance is led by 66 year old William Pierce, notorious as the author of The Turner Diaries which has been implicated in the Oklahoma City bombing. Resistance has recently taken to marketing via the Internet and is building a new CD distribution warehouse on its 400 acre fenced compound.
Pierce claims he sells about US$1 million (£625,000) of so called hatecore music per year, with the explicit goal of enlisting followers. Speaking recently to David Segal of the Washington Post, Pierce said “I don’t care for the music myself. But if it helps move people in the right direction, I’m for it.”
Segal writes, “[Hatecore] fans are typically male and in their twenties, many of them professionals with decent jobs. They share an unshakable conviction that 'the white race' is headed toward extinction and saving it requires a rigorous segregation from non-whites.”
Resistance is owned by Liberty Lobby founder Willis Carto and former Reagan White House staff member Todd Blodgett. Blodgett told Segal “I in no way endorse or condone the underlying premise of the music in question.” | Washington Post story | | top of page |
