Terry Riley performs in New York
14 January 2000
63 year old avant garde/minimalist composer and keyboardist Terry Riley staged his first concert of the year at Merkin Hall in New York city this past Thursday. His All Stars ensemble were Tracy Silverman (strings), George Brooks (tenor saxaphone), Stefano Scodanibbio (contrabass), and Gyan Riley (guitar, Riley’s son).
Riley, whose hypnotic style has influenced a broad spectrum of rock genres over the years, released Reed Streams last April. Earlier this month he reissued Persian Surgery Dervishes, originally released in 1972 on Shandar.
