Ash head to studio with new songs by guitarist
13 January 2000
Northern Irish pop rock quartet Ash go back to the studio next month to start sessions for their third album. Drummer Rick McMurray spoke to NME (the New Musical Express) about it.
“We’ve already got 14 songs ready and written, with a few more to be added in the near future... Charlotte [Hatherley, who joined Ash three years ago] has written some stuff of her own. She has a distinctive sound—a really unique sound...
“It’s all fairly poppy and harmonic but we’ll be punking it up a bit, I’m sure. It could still take any direction, so I suppose even the band can’t say exactly what it will end up sounding like.”
Hatherley contributed lyrics to one song from last year’s Nu Clear Sounds. NME honored Ash’s debut LP 1977 ranking it number 25 in their top 50 albums list for 1996, but 1999’s followup didn’t make the cut. | NME story | | discography | | sample from 1977 | | top of page |
