Joe Louis Walker leads pack for Blues Foundation honors 12 January 2000 The Blues Foundation, a US based non-profit organization with affiliates in 27 countries, announced on Tuesday their nominees for the 21st Annual W.C. Handy Blues Awards. The Handy Awards are considered the highest global honor for blues musicians. The awards cover 24 categories ranging from Blues Entertainer of the Year to a variety of instrumentalist awards. 50 year old San Francisco native Joe Louis Walker received nominations for Blues Band of the Year, Contemporary Blues-Male Artist Of The Year, and Blues Instrumentalist-Guitar. His album Silvertone Blues is nominated for Contemporary Blues Album of the Year as well as for Blues Album of the Year. Ceremonies take place 25 May 2000 in Memphis, Tennessee at the Orpheum Theatre and will be Webcast live.
