Manics to depose Westlife in UK? 10 January 2000 Music journalist Simon Price, author of the Manic Street Preachers biography, has said that the Welsh trio could topple boy band Westlife from their number one perch this week with a limited edition single. Masses Against The Classes has been pressed in one 10,000 copy run, but, said Price, In January, it is a well-known fact that anyone can get to number one and I think 10,000 copies is enough. They have always wanted to use their music to reach a mass audience to spread their message and at the Millennium gig they were selling t-shirts with quotes from Mao Tse Tung. Although, there is a certain irony in using communist ideology to oil the capitalist wheels of their own merchandising. | BBC story | | discography | | sample | | top of page | |
