The RIAAs Hilary Rosen speaks on mp3.com lawsuit 29 February 2000 Live Dailys Mark Lewis interviewed Recording Industry Association of America CEO Hilary Rosen about her organizations legal battle with online music distributor mp3.com. Michael Robertson, CEO of mp3.com, makes money by breaking down barriers to music access, while the RIAA represents the rights of music copyright owners. The conflict came to a head on 21 January when the RIAA brought a federal lawsuit against mp3.com to force them to discontinue their just added Beam-It and Instant Listening services. On 8 February mp3.com countersued, claiming defamation, libel, economic interference, and unfair business practices. Rosen said The lawsuit is clearly and simply about what MP3.com did in creating a significant database of albums that it doesnt own, for commercial purposes. Its a very narrow claim, but an emphatic one. | Live Daily story | | top of page | |
