Ladyfest 2000 lineup coming together
2 February 2000
The first annual Ladyfest celebration of women’s music, art, and politics takes place 1-6 August in Olympia Washington. The gathering has been motivated in part by the recent commercial success of US bands promoting misogyny. Event publicist Tristin Laughter of indie label Lookout Records told SonicNet “The triumphant cock-rock reality of 1999... has really pushed the boundaries back to where they were before the early ’90s... before riot grrrl.”
According to sponsor Kill Rock Stars, Ladyfest “...is an event designed by and for women to showcase, celebrate, and encourage the artistic, organizational, and political work and talents of women. It will feature performances by bands, spoken word artists, authors, visual artists and more. it will include workshops, panels, and dance parties. This is a woman-run event but all are welcome to attend.”
Bands confirmed so far include Bangs, Bratmobile, The Butchies, Sarah Dougher, Frenchie And The German Girls, Lois Maffeo, and Sleater-Kinney.
The Ladyfest Web site at http://www.ladyfest.org/ will be up soon. | SonicNet archive | | top of page |
