Wayne Kramers John Sinclair benefit 15 February 2000 Former MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer will front US power trio Streetwalkin Cheetahs to headline a benefit concert on 27 February in Los Angeles. The concert will raise funds to assist US activist John Sinclair, whose New Orleans home burned two weeks ago. Starting in 1967 Sinclair managed Kramers old band The MC5 (Motor City Five). In 1968 Sinclair joined the utopian/anarchist/in your dreams White Panther Partywhich despite its name has nothing to do with white supremecism. Slain Beatle John Lennon once honored Sinclair with a political anthem in his name. Most of the White Panther Partys hippy tenets come across as quaint today 1. Full endorsement and support of Black Panther Partys 10-Point Program 2. Total assault on the culture by any means necessary, including rock n roll, dope and fucking in the streets. 3. Free exchange of energy and materialswe demand the end of money! 4. Free food, clothes, housing, dope, music, bodies, medical careeverything free for everybody! 5. Free access to information mediafree the technology from the greed creeps! 6. Free time and space for all humansdissolve all unnatural boundaries. 7. Free all schools and all structures from corporate ruleturn the buildings over to the people at once! 8. Free all prisoners everywherethey are our brothers. 9. Free all soldiers at onceno more conscripted armies. 10. Free the people from their leadersleaders suckall power to all the people! Freedom means free everyone! These days Sinclair issues spoken word albums, hosts a radio show on WWOZ-FM in New Orleans, and writes for Blues Access magazine. Kramers most recent album is 1998s wide ranging Live Like A Motherfucker, or LLMF. | Billboard story | | WPP info | | discography | | CD | | top of page | |
