Stuart David quits Belle&Sebastian Looper to tour with Flaming Lips 10 February 2000 As recently as last week a band spokesman was denying the rumors, but bassist Stuart David has in fact quit Glasgow retro popsters Belle & Sebastian. He plans to focus on his other band Looper and to write his second novel. The founding member told NME About two weeks ago I finally had a meeting with everyone... with the album being finished, to see what everyone wanted to do. I decided then that I was spending too much time with Looper and with my novel to be able to keep contributing enough to Belle & Sebastian, or to tour with them again. It was all very amicable and well stay friends. David will play one last time with Belle & Sebastian during their 1 March taping for the John Peel radio show. Looper will join a brief tour of the US midwest with The Flaming Lips starting 7 March in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Additional dates may be announced. Tour dates so far are March 7 Champaign-Urbana, IL (High Dive) 8 Iowa City, IA (Union Bar) 9 Madison, WI (TBA) 11 Minneapolis, MN (First Avenue) 15 Lawrence, KS (Granada Theater) 16 St. Louis, MO (Fire House) 17 Columbia, MO (The Blue Note) 19 Boulder, CO (Fox Theater) | NME story | | discography | | sample from Tigermilk | | top of page | |
