Rollins Band release live LP: A Clockwork Orange Stage
5 December 2000

This July, LA based hardcore act Rollins Band brashly and unashamedly took to the Roskilde Festival’s Orange stage just 24 hours after 9 men were tragically killed by trampling in the stage’s mosh pit during a Pearl Jam concert. The Cure, set to follow Pearl Jam, had cancelled. Oasis and Pet Shop Boys, scheduled to play the same night as Rollins Band, canceled as well. Vocalist Henry Rollins (ex Black Flag) said

There’s one hundred thousand people there and you’re not going to play? What good is that going to do? Come all that way out to the festival, endure a catastrophic night and then go home early even more bummed out? I thought the music was there to strengthen the spirit in times of trouble. Well, that’s my take on it anyway. One of the members of the Pet Shop Boys staff came up to me and asked me if we were going to play and I told him fuck yeah we were going to play. I looked over at the Oasis crew eating at a table. They were never intending to load out the gear. I bet the members of the band never left London. So, we played and had a blast.
Rollins recorded the full set to multitrack and mixed it to CD with “no overdubs or fixes”. A Clockwork Orange Stage is available now only from Rollins’ 2.13.61 Web site. | 2.13.61 | | discography | | top of page |
