Bob Dylan tribute album features Low, other Duluth artists
5 December 2000

This past Friday, Santa Clarita, California based Spinout Records released the various artists collection Duluth Does Dylan, 15 songs by Duluth, Minnesota native Bob Dylan (Robert Zimmerman) as performed by current Duluth artists. The label says it hopes the album provides “some insight into the roots of one of the world’s greatest songwriters” by exposing a wide spectrum of local talent inspired by “Duluth’s long winters and mountains of snow, the decaying of industry, [and] the steep hill that flows to Lake Superior” which no doubt also inspired Dylan.
Tim Nelson of contributing band Gild organized the project. He recorded the bands with producer Tom Fabjance and engineer Dave Hill at Superior, Minnesota’s Island Sea studios this past August and September. Nelson told Duluth’s New Tribune “I think it’s already a success, just by how it’s brought people together within the scene....”
Bands and tracks on the album are

Low — Blowin’ In The Wind
Both — A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall
Giljunko — Quit Your Low Down Ways
Jamie Ness — One Too Many Mornings
Crazy Betty — Knocking On Heavens Door
Mayfly — It Ain’t Me Babe
Gild — Don’t Think Twice, It’s all right
Dames — All Along The Watchtower
Black Eyed Snakes — Tombstone Blues
American Hip — Country Pie
Father Hennepin — Girl From The North Country
Accidental Porn — If You Gotta Go, Go Now
Black Labels — Rainy Day Women #12 & 35
First Ladies — Father Of Night
Ballyhoo — When I Paint My Master Piece

For now, until distribution kicks in, you can order the CD from The Electric Fetus record shop in Minneapolis at +1 612-870-9300. | Duluth Does Dylan | | top of page |
