The Soft Boys reunite for tour next year
5 December 2000

Cambridge, England retro blues/psychedelicists The Soft Boys, who reunited once before six years ago, are back together for a three week US tour starting 17 March 2001 in Austin at the SXSW Music Festival. The band will comprise all four latter-day (circa 1980) members: Robyn Hitchcock (vocals, guitar, songs), Kimberly Rew (guitar, vocals), Morris Windsor (drums, vocals), and Matthew Seligman (bass).
Original bassist Andy Metcalfe left in 1979 to join Telephone Bill & The Smooth Operators, and later Squeeze. He got back with Hitchcock for several albums by Robyn Hitchcock And The Egyptians. Rew left after the release of Underwater Moonlight to form Katrina And The Waves.
Prior to the upcoming US tour, The Soft Boys will play some warm up gigs around the UK. And following the US dates they’ll head to Europe for more shows.
On 13 March Matador will re-release Underwater Moonlight—the third of the three official Soft Boys albums—worldwide on CD. There are no plans to reissue Can Of Bees or Invisible Hits.
The new pressing includes the 10 tracks from the original vinyl LP, the eight bonus tracks from the 1990 Glass Fish/1992 Rykodisc CDs, plus the song He’s A Reptile. It will come with a bonus CD of previously unreleased rehearsal versions of tracks recorded during the making of Underwater Moonlight, and will constitute the only Soft Boys product in print—their back catalogue has been unavailable for years. | Robyn Hitchcock | | Kimberly Rew | | Hitchock fanzine | | bio | | discography | | top of page |
