Free Activation Series Vol. 2 features plastiq phantom
27 December 2000
image
Electronica/ambient artist and producer plastiq phantom (aka 'qp') grew up in southern California but now calls Seattle home. In February he put out an EP on imputor? and this month appears on a new various artists collection from Sweet Mother Recordings—who will also release his not yet titled full length debut in February 2001. In his spare time qp plays in Seattle noise/trance band Tagging Satellites.
The Sweet Mother collection was produced in collaboration with the somewhat mysterious Art And Revolution Organization and a Japanese boutique/gallery called Beams. Titled Free Activation Series, Volume 2, the disc contains ambient/dance/electronica tracks by emerging artists from the Seattle and Vancouver areas including plastiq phantom, Beanfield, Buscemi, Snowboy, Bahamadia, and others. It’s mixed by Sweet Mother label founder and former molecular biologist Nasir Rasheed, aka DJ Nasir.
FASV2 has a companion book and traveling art exhibition called Visual Virus. The book so far seems to be available only at selected locations, namely ALife in New York city, Colette in Paris, Beams and Relax in Tokyo, Rudy’s Barbershop and K-Bond in Los Angeles, The Pineal Eye in London, and Twenty-Four in Vancouver. The exhibition appears at Beams in Tokyo through the end of this month, and then at ALife in New York starting 19 January.
You can catch plastiq phantom in Seattle and New York city next month. Here are the dates

January
14 - Seattle (I-Spy): live set with Diagram Of Suburban Chaos
18 - New York city (Joe’s Pub)
30 - Seattle (I-Spy): DJ set
