Robert Rich reissues Sunyata on CD 19 December 2000
The 1982 cassette release Sunyata by northern California experimental/ambient composer Robert Rich is now available for the first time on CD from Portland, Oregon indie Hypnos Recordings. Rich, who holds a degree in psychology from Stanford University, is known for his multi-hour 'sleep concerts' of psychoactive drone music. He assembled Sunyata at age 19 in 1981—it’s his first solo work—and remastered the 63 minute piece last year. In October Rich released the triple-CD set Humidity, also on Hypnos. It contains portions of three recent improvised concerts. Next year Rich plans to release a seven hour continuous work titled Somnium on DVD.
