First CD issue for early Gruppo Di Improvvisazione material

Italian label Ampersand—not to be confused with the Stockholm punk label with the same name—this week released for the first time on CD the album Musica Su Schemi (music by outline) from legendary Italian experimental ensemble Gruppo Di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. The work, first issued in 1976 on Italian imprint Cramps, was also released this past January on 180 gram vinyl by Get Back.
    Gruppo... was conceived in 1964 by post-serialist* Franco Evangelisti (1928-1980) as a collective of experimental composers dedicated to creating improvisational music, among them soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone—best known for his ’60s and ’70s spy/erotic movie themes.
    Ampersand describes Musica Su Schemi as “A whirring blend of free music, unintentional sounds, noise, and anti-musical operations and compositions.” The release includes previously unpublished photos plus liner notes by Evangelisti.
    German author Christian Vogl has written about Evangelisti and Gruppo Di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza; we provide links to a couple of essays, one in German and one in English.
    *roughly speaking, post-serialism is a strictly rule based approach to musical composition.
