Angus MacLise 'virtual shrine' debuts online
14 August 2000

US indie distributor Midheaven has just posted a so-called 'virtual shrine' to Velvet Underground founding member, the late Angus MacLise—who quit the band upon discovering that they were getting paid for their first show. The percussionist, poet, and new age Renaissance man went on to collaborate with Andy Warhol, Terry Riley, Ira Cohen, and many other art and music luminaries. He died in Nepal in 1979 at age 41.
Siltbreeze records released late last year the first volume of a posthumous MacLise retrospective, The Invasion Of The Thunderbolt Pagoda. The shrine Web site includes RealAudio and MP3 (MPEG I layer 3) samples and complete songs from that album and from MacLise’s earlier Brain Damage In Oklahoma City, also available on Siltbreeze. | Angus MacLise virtual shrine | | discography | | sample from The Invasion Of The Thunderbolt Pagoda | | top of page |
