Tickets for the Farm Aid annual benefit concert go on sale this Friday through TicketMaster. The event takes place 17 September at the Nissan Pavilion west of Washington, DC in Bristow, Virginia.
Artists announced so far include Farm Aid co-founders Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp, with co-founder Neil Young performing as part of Crosby Stills Nash & Young—he has not been confirmed to play solo.
Also playing according to the Farm Aid press office will be Barenaked Ladies, Shannon Curfman, Arlo Guthrie, North Mississippi Allstars, Jimmy Sturr, and Travis Tritt. Many more artists will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Now in its 16th year (although this concert is the 15th), Farm Aid has collected and distributed more than US$15 million “...to raise public awareness about the plight of the American family farmer and to provide assistance to those families whose livelihoods depend on agriculture.” In June Willie Nelson, acting as a spokesperson for US family farmers, sent a letter to the United States Department of Agriculture urging clearer rules against the use of genetically modified organisms, irradiation, and sewage sludge fertilizer in produce labeled as 'organic.' You can read the letter using our link, below.
US cable channel Country Music Television will broadcast Farm Aid 2000 live as an 8 hour special running 2 - 10 pm EDT on 17 September. You can get tickets from TicketMaster on the Web starting Friday or by calling (outside of Virginia, but in the US) 800-551-SEAT. You can donate to Farm Aid year round by calling (in the US) 800-FARM-AID. | Farm Aid organization | | Farm Aid concert info | | TicketMaster | | Nelson letter to USDA | | top of page |
