Groove Armada lyrics, video censored for US
7 April 2000

UK funk/dance band Groove Armada have created a so called “clean” version of their single I See You Baby in hopes of gaining wider radio play in America. The original chorus goes “I see you baby, shaking that ass.” The new version employs the euphemism “thang.” A band spokesperson explained to nme.com: “Some states in the US would object to the word 'ass' being used, especially in the more southern states where they are more religious.”
The US version of the video features a club scene including a security guard observing hidden camera feeds of patrons using toilets. The UK video was set in a women’s aerobics class.
The US version of Groove Armada’s debut album Vertigo still contains the “dirty” version of the song. | NME story | | Groove Armada | | bio | | discography | | sample | | top of page |
