Internet music delivery critical says British government 5 April 2000 A British government report due today warns that unless the music industry and Internet infrastructure keep pace, users will pirate music in greater numbers. Music files are too difficult to purchase and take too long to download, the report says. Among the recommendations are a secure online payment system accessible by children as well as adults, coordination among electronics manufacturers to ensure that files will play, and cheaper and faster Internet access. In the absence of major changes, the report predicts songwriters and musicians would lose billions of pounds/dollars. | BBC story | | top of page | |
