The Magnetic Fields name a color
27 April 2000

New York based singer/songwriter Stephin Merrit, aka The Magnetic Fields, is one of several celebrities selected by professional color standards provider PANTONE to name a new color. Most of the others so honored are architects, fashion designers, or marketers.
Merrit’s color is PANTONE 7498, a.k.a. Carolyn Eve Green—named after a friend living in the Rocky Mountains. Merrit said “...if vegetables were Carolyn Eve Green, children would be happier to eat them.” He references PANTONE colors on his 1999 set 69 Love Songs, with the line “You make me blue, PANTONE 292.”
The Magnetic Fields play a handful of US cities in late May, a one-off at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall on 25 July, and a show at The Fort at Castle Clinton in New York’s Battery Park on 3 August. | tour dates | | The Magnetic Fields | | discography | | sample | | top of page |
