Metallica answer fans’ questions on Napster lawsuit
27 April 2000

San Francisco metal men Metallica will host a chat on Tuesday to discuss their lawsuit against Napster, Inc. The San Mateo, California startup provides free software, available only for Windows, that allows Internet users to easily trade MP3 (MPEG I, layer 3 format) music files.
Dr. Dre has sued Napster as well, working with Metallica’s legal team. But some fans and artists, including The Offspring, have criticized the suit. Limp Bizkit and Cypress Hill this week signed on with Napster for a fully sponsored free US tour this summer.
Announcing the chat, Metallica said “We recognize that this is a very complicated issue with larger implications that our fans may not completely understand. We’ve always valued and respected our fans and wanted to discuss with them directly why we have brought this suit, and answer their questions and address their concerns directly.”
The chat starts Tuesday 2 May at 8:00 pm EDT (1:00 am BST on Wednesday). | SonicNet story | | Metallica chat | | discography | | sample | | top of page |
