Metallica set IS policy for US schools
21 April 2000

San Francisco metal quartet Metallica have in effect set Information Systems policy for Indiana and Yale Universities. Their lawsuit brought last week, claiming that software maker Napster and three universities were conspiring to defraud the band of income, was taken with utmost seriousness. Both schools have banned access to the Napster servers (preventing trading of MP3 music files by that means on campus). Metallica have in turn dropped those schools from their lawsuit.
Defendants remaining in Metallica’s suit are San Mateo, California based Napster, Inc. and the University of Southern California.
Both Yale and Indiana have left the door open to resume connections to Napster once the lawsuit is resolved. | Billboard story | | Metallica | | Napster | | discography | | sample | | top of page |
