20 April 2000

Bristol, England techno duo Massive Attack have licensed the track Angel from their 1998 LP Mezzanine for use in a perfume commercial. The buyer, Emporio Armani, will donate the band’s take to charities.
The band wrote “The music that’s used in ads is becomingly increasingly homogenized, and the agencies are resorting to cheap rip-offs of other people’s styles. This is not something we want to be a part of, but if we can redirect the money to people that need it, then it’s worth it.”
The estimated US$250,000 (£150,000) to be raised will go to the British Red Cross and to the Beira Fund, which helps rebuild schools in flood ravaged southern Africa. | MTV story | | Massive Attack | | Giorgio Armani | | discography | | sample from Mezzanine | | top of page |
