Yale University blocks all Napster access 19 April 2000 Reacting quickly to a racketeering lawsuit brought by San Francisco metal band Metallica, Yale University has disabled access to Napster servers for its Campus network. Napster facilitates trading of MP3 music files among personal hard drives over the Internet. Spokesperson Tom Conroy said Until we can clarify the legal issues surrounding Napster, it will not be accessible through the Yale network. Yale had previously disabled Napster access during peak University hours, due to the congestion its use caused. The new ban extends to 24 hours, 7 days a week. On Monday, producer/rapper and Niggers With Attitude (NWA) founding member Dr. Dre demanded that Napster, Inc. ensure by the end of the week that none of his songs were being traded. His lawyer is also Metallicas, and told Reuters that another lawsuit may follow. | SonicNet story | | Napster | | top of page | |
