We Start Fires play Ladyfest benefit in Newcastle 22 June 2003
The show starts at 8 pm at Newcastle’s The Head of Steam pub, 2 Neville Street, and also features Bugeye, The Four Marys, and Rosco. Ladyfest, a benefit festival series, bootstraps its own funding with benefit shows, of which tonight’s is one. The series began as a one-time event in August, 2000 in Olympia, Washington, US—but immediately became a meme for the new century and a movement ensued. Its simple charter described it as a “non-profit, community-based event designed by and for women to showcase, celebrate, and encourage the artistic, organizational, and political work and talents of women.” The successful August, 2000 festival led to five far-flung Ladyfests in 2001. Last year Ladyfest exploded worldwide. This year, festivals are confirmed or planned for Australia, Canada, Indonesia, USA, UK, Germany, France, Sweden, Holland, Italy, and Belgium. We Start Fires are continuing to work on their debut album. You can now pick up their How To Be A Lady EP from better record shops in the UK, or order it from their Website. You can get a taste of the forthcoming album on their audio page in the form of MP3 clips. We’ve provided a direct link to new song Next Exit. | We Start Fires | | show info | | Next Exit (full length MP3) | | top of page | |
